De BBC heeft bekendgemaakt dat acteur Christopher Eccleston gecast is voor de rol van Dr. Who in een nieuwe reeks afleveringen over de tijdreizende professor.

Eccleston speelde onder andere rollen in Elizabeth, Shallow Grave, Gone in 60 Seconds, The Others, 28 Days Later en [/i]eXistenZ[/i], en zal de negende zijn die deze rol op zich neemt.
