Waar Marvel Studios op The Avengers-regisseur Joss Whedon vertrouwt, heeft 20th Century Fox Mark Millar als "Marvel-adviseur" aangesteld voor de aankomende films die de studio wil gaan maken over de X-Men en The Fantastic Four. De Schot Millar maakte zowel strips voor DC Comics als Marvel Comics en is bij het filmpubliek met name bekend van zijn verfilmde strips Wanted en Kick-Ass. Ook maakte hij strips als Wolverine en Spider-Man.

Fox ziet Millar als "an invaluable resource to us and to our filmmakers as we look for fresh opportunities to innovate within our shared Marvel universe." Millar zelf reageerde als volgt: As someone who has spent his entire life obsessed with both comic-books and movies, this is essentially my dream gig as it's a unique combination of both...I really like the Fox team, love this bold new direction they have for their franchises and am proud to be working alongside some of modern cinema's biggest talents. James Mangold is incredible, Matthew Vaughn's one of my closest pals and Josh Trank gave us, in my opinion, one of the greatest superhero movies of the last decade with 'Chronicle.' The invitation to join this crew was maybe the coolest phone-call I've ever had.

20th Century Fox heeft op dit moment The Wolverine (2013), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) en de The Fantastic Four reboot (?) in ontwikkeling. Fox bezit de rechten van de X-Men en Fantastic Four personages. Ook hebben ze voorlopig nog de rechten in handen van Marvel personages als Daredevil en Elektra. Deze lijken echter snel terug te keren naar Marvel Studios, aangezien Fox te lang geen film heeft gemaakt over de personages.
