Nadat eerder regisseur Matt Reeves zich liet ontvallen dat hij een rol voor Mr. Freeze weggelegd zag in het vervolg, hebben nu ook veel fans de beruchte DC-schurk genomineerd om te verschijnen.
Acteurs hebben ze eveneens al in gedachten. Onder andere de namen van Mads Mikkelsen en Paul Bettany zijn genoemd om de cheesy performance van Arnold Schwarzenegger in Batman & Robin (1997) te doen vergeten.

Mr. Freeze, wiens echte naam Dr. Victor Fries is (uitgesproken als "Freeze"), is verzonnen door Dave Wood en Sheldon Moldoff en verscheen voor het eerst in Batman No. 121 in 1959.
Hij werd populairder dankzij Batman: The Animated Series toen hij een nieuw achtergrondverhaal kreeg als een cryogene expert die zijn lichaam onder de nul graden moest houden om in leven te blijven na een laboratoriumongeluk.
Gekleed in een cryogeen pak neemt hij zijn toevlucht tot een leven in de misdaad met als belangrijkste doel een remedie te vinden voor zijn terminaal zieke vrouw Nora.
