Het lastige van het maken van een film over iemand die nog leeft is dat de persoon in kwestie in staat is om kritiek te geven. Dit ondervindt regisseur Bill Condon momenteel met zijn The Fifth Estate, een biopic over WikiLeaks oprichter Julian Assange (gespeeld door Benedict Cumberbatch). Assange zou het script hebben gelezen en doet het project af als een massale, propagandistische aanval. Hij is ervan overtuigd dat de film het vuurtje zal aanwakkeren door te stellen dat Iran bezig is met het voorbereiden van een nucleaire oorlog.

"It's a massive propaganda attack on WikiLeaks and the character of my staff. How does this have anything to do with us? It is a lie upon lie.”

Regisseur Condon ging een paar dagen eerder al in op zijn aanpak en dit lijkt totaal niet te matchen met Assange's extreme uitlatingen.

It may be decades before we understand the full impact of WikiLeaks and how it’s revolutionized the spread of information. So this film won’t claim any long-view authority on its subject, or attempt any final judgment. We want to explore the complexities and challenges of transparency in the information age and, we hope, enliven and enrich the conversations WikiLeaks has already provoked.

Verder heeft Apple mede-oprichter Steve Wozniak zich via een reeks e-mails uitgelaten over jOBS, Joshua Michael Sterns biopic over de inmiddels overleden Steve Jobs (gespeeld door Ashton Kutcher). Wozniak zegt dat er niets van de film klopt, maar hij hoopt alsnog dat het een leuk eindproduct oplevert.



The Fifth Estate komt in de VS uit op 15 november, terwijl jOBS op 19 april al verschijnt.
