De DC-film van The Hangover-regisseur Todd Phillips ging dit weekend in première tijdens het Venice Film Festival. De recensies mogen pas later dit weekend verschijnen, maar de eerste reacties online zijn al erg hoopvol. Zo wordt de film al een "Duister grappig meesterwerk" genoemd.
Oscarwaardig
Ook andere reacties zijn erg positief. Bijna te voorspellen wordt de rol van topacteur Joaquin Phoenix (The Master, Walk the Line) bejubeld. Zo wordt zijn optreden een "een krachtige, Oscarwaardige uitvoering" genoemd. Mocht Phoenix volgend jaar een Oscar winnen, dan is het de tweede keer dat een Joker-rol wordt bekroond. In 2009 won Heath Ledger postuum een Oscar voor zijn versie in The Dark Knight.
