Enkele dagen geleden meldden we al dat regisseur Francis Lawrence, bekend van films als I Am Legend (2007) en Water for Elephants (2011), de regie op zich zou gaan nemen van Catching Fire, het vervolg op het succesvolle The Hunger Games regisseren. Dit is nu bevestigd door filmstudio Lionsgate.

Regisseur Lawrence over de opdracht: "It is truly an honor and a privilege to bring Catching Fire, the second chapter of Suzanne's beloved trilogy, to the big screen. I fell in love with the characters, the themes and the world she created and this chapter opens all of these elements up in such a thrilling, emotional and surprising way. I can't wait to dive right into it and bring this chapter to life along with the truly superb cast and filmmakers involved."

De opnames van Catching Fire moeten dit najaar al van start gaan. Het eerste deel draait nog steeds met veel succes in de bioscoop. De verfilming van het tienerboek heeft ondertussen ruim $600 miljoen opgebracht aan de wereldwijde bioscoopkassa, tegen een productiebudget van zo'n $78 miljoen.
