De Australische regisseur Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!) heeft eindelijk de titel voor zijn langverwachte nieuwe film bekendgemaakt: Australia, een grootse romantische avonturenfilm in de stijl van klassiekers als Gone With The Wind en Lawrence of Arabia. Nicole Kidman erft daarin een stuk land, maar slaat op de vlucht wanneer een groep grootgrondbezitters op haar eigendom aast. Samen met de veedrijver Hugh Jackman maakt ze een lang tocht door het verlaten land, waarbij ze uiteindelijk terechtkomen in de Japanse bombardementen op Darwin.
