Via Twitter zijn er heel wat fans opgestaan om Abrams te bedanken en hem hiermee mogelijk te steunen in al het negatieve commentaar dat hij sinds 18 december (opnieuw) moet verwerken. The Rise of Skywalker beviel niet zeker iedereen. Abrams gaf zijn tegenstanders recent zelfs gelijk.

Ondertussen is duidelijk dat The Rise of Skywalker hoe dan ook een financieel succes wordt, ondanks het zwakke ontvangst op Rotten Tomatoes - waar deze rotten is - en op de IMDb - waar de film op dit moment er zwakker voor staat dan The Last Jedi uit 2017.
