De eerste volledige recensies zullen op 12 december op het net belanden, aangezien er tot dinsdag een embargo rust op de betogen over de film van regisseur Rian Johnson. En dit is maar goed ook, aangezien de film behoorlijk gespoild zou kunnen worden. De trailers wezen al uit dat in The Last Jedi er flink wat ontwikkelingen plaatsvinden rond Daisy Ridley's Rey en Adam Drivers Kylo Ren, uiteraard door de inmenging van onder meer Mark Hamills Luke Skywalker en de Andy Serkis' duistere slechterik Supreme Leader Snoke.
Ontvangst The Force Awakens
Nog even een snelle terugblik op de voorganger Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Dit deel wordt door vele liefhebbers gezien als een halve remake van het origineel uit 1977, maar kreeg wel prima reacties van publiek en critici. Rotten Tomatoes noteert een nette 93 procent, met een 8,2 gemiddelde beoordeling op basis van 378 reviews. De IMDb noteert een 8,1 na ruim 700 duizend stemmen. Er werd uiteindelijk meer dan $2 miljard opgehaald aan de wereldwijde bioscoopkassa's.

I just saw #StarWars #TheLastJedi and holy hell is it a masterpiece in a lot of insane ways. I think the standout factor is @rianjohnson's A+ direction. There has never been a Star Wars Movie like this.

To be clear: #StarWars #TheLastJedi has some story and character issues. It's a little overcrowded and wastes some of the characters but those are really minor quibbles in the grand scheme of how much I liked it

Impressed with #StarWars: #TheLastJedi. It makes some big, impressive and surprising moves that I definitely didn't expect. Not all of the plot stuff is exactly perfect, but the character work is once again fantastic, and it's just amazing to see Luke Skywalker back in action.
