Kenneth Branaghs Thor is de meest succesvolle superheldenfilm van dit jaar en daarom is het niet verwonderlijk dat we een tweede deel kunnen verwachten. Een van de voornaamste en misschien wel meest aardige rollen was voor Tom Hiddleston als Thors broer Loki, die zich uiteindelijk ontpopte tot de villain. Ook Stellan Skarsgård dook op in de film van Marvel Studios als de geleerde Erik Selvig. De acteurs werden onlangs geïnterviewd door I Am Rogue en MTV. Er werd gesproken over de tweede Thor (2013) en The Avengers (2012):
Op de vraag van MTV of regisseur Brian Kirk daadwerkelijk Thor 2 gaat regisseren, blijft Hiddleston onduidelijk: "I havent. I also dont know that thats actually confirmed. Thats not me being coy. I spoke to Kevin Feige last week on [The Avengers] set and he said, 'Oh no, we havent got anyone yet. Were thinking about people. I think [Kirk's] name is definitely in the hat, but I dont think anything is solid." De opnames starten waarschijnlijk volgend voorjaar: "next spring is the idea because the release date is locked down." Thor 2 staat gepland voor eind juli 2013.
Over de verdere ontwikkeling van het personage Loki zegt Hiddleston: "The great thing about Loki is there is potential in him for greatness and awfulness, for great heroism and great villainy. There are still, even within 'The Avengers,' there are moments where you see within Loki a glimmer of hope and that possibility of redemption.Nobody is black and white, there are shades of grey in all of us. We all have potential for greatness and we all have flaws. I for one am championing the redemption." Hiddleston is er echter niet op gerust dat Loki terugkeert in Thor 2: "This isnt definitely going to happen, but I think there would be nothing more awesome than seeing Loki and Thor fight somebody side by side."
Stellan Skarsgård gaf tegenover I Am Rogue iets meer prijs over de relatie tussen zijn personage Erik Selvig en de villain Loki, die samen kort waren te zien in de after-credit scene van Thor: "Well with the scene we did in Thor, it was like Loki, one way or the other, entered Erics mind. And in Avengers, you will see more clarity in how Loki is using Erics mind." Ook geeft hij aan dat hij een kleine, maar belangrijke rol heeft in The Avengers. Hij is voornamelijk te zien met de eerder genoemde Hiddleston: "(My character) is of importance but the size of the role is not big. Its a small role and it is a pretty crowded film with a lot of actors in it." en "Most of my scenes were with Tom Hiddleston."
