Op dit moment legt The Social Network regisseur David Fincher de laatste hand aan zijn nieuwste film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Wat de geliefde regisseur daarna gaat doen, is nog niet helemaal duidelijk. Zo wordt hij in verband gebracht met Cleopatra en heeft hij zelf de grote wens om de film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea te maken. Over het laatste project heeft hij ondertussen wat meer losgelaten. De 3D film zal waarschijnlijk voor zo'n 70% uit CGI/motion capture gaan bestaan. Zo'n beetje als bij trendsetter Avatar (2009) van specialist James Cameron.
Fincher: "I would love to to something like that. I would love to do something probably more like Avatar than like Tintin. I like the idea of something that is a little more... complicated. [laughs] I love the idea of a 'cartoon', but I would like it to be something sort of very, very dense. And, in fact, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea will be probably 70% CG... I love motion capture and think its only in its infancy, and eventually there won't be a difference between motion capture and acting. Because that's all motion capture is, is being able to capture acting."
