Entertainment Weekly sprak met regisseur Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, xXx) over zijn [urlnoblank=http://www.filmtotaal.nl/module.php?section=newsDetails&newsID=4761]The 8th Voyage of Sinbad[/urlnoblank], met in de hoofdrol Keanu Reeves als de legendarische zeeman.

Cohen zei dat hij contact heeft gehad met Jet Li (Hero), Djimon Hounsou (Constantine) and Hayden Christensen (binnenkort te zien als Darth Vader in Star Wars) voor de uitbreiding van Sinbads bemanning. De regisseur heeft Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero) op het oog voor de rol van de keizerin waar Sinbad mee te maken krijgt.

Interessanter is de mededeling dat Cohen de inmiddels 84-jarige Ray Harryhausen heeft gestrikt om toe te zien op de visuele effecten. Harryhausen maakte tientallen jaren geleden furore met de special effects in onder andere Jason and the Argonauts, The Golden Voyage of Sinbad en Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger.
