Zojuist zijn de nominaties bekendgemaakt voor de Academy Awards, oftewel de jaarlijkse Oscar-uitreiking. Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Guillermo del Toro, John Krasinski en Ang Lee maakten alle titels en namen bekend in de waslijst met categorieën.
De meeste nominaties zijn voor The Revenant. De film van Alejandro González Iñárritu, de man achter Birdman - de Oscar-topper van 2015, ontving maar liefst twaalf nominaties. George Millers Mad Max: Fury Road ontving tien nominaties en Ridley Scotts The Martian kreeg er in totaal zeven.
De 88e editie van de Oscars vindt plaats op zondag 28 februari in het Dolby Theatre bij het Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood. De gastheer is Chris Rock, die dit ook was tijdens de 77e editie in 2005.
