Geruchten gaan dat het plot van de film in de lijn zal zijn van War Games uit 1983. Die Hard 4.0 staat gepland voor 2006, de regie is in handen van John McTiernan. Hij was ook verantwoordelijk voor het eerste en het derde deel.
