Regisseur Michael Bay maakte tijd vrij om even met de LA Times te praten over zijn Transformers 4. Daarbij ging hij kort in op het verhaal en het budget van de film.

Allereerst wenste Bay te benadrukken dat het geen reboot zal zijn: "It's not a reboot," vertelt hij "That’s maybe the wrong word. I don’t want to say 'reboot' because then people will think we’re doing a 'Spider-Man' and starting from the beginning. We’re not. We’re taking the story that you’ve seen — the story we’ve told in three movies already — and we’re taking it in a new direction. But we’re leaving those three as the history. It all still counts... We’re moving on to something different.”

Het scenario is nog niet af, maar volgens Bay zal de film zich waarschijnlijk deels in de ruimte af gaan spelen. "That feels like the way to go, doesn’t it?" vertelt hij. "I want to go a little off [the planet] but I don’t want to go too sci-fi. I still want to keep it grounded."

Ook wilde Bay nog even ingaan op het budget. Hij vertelde dat dit waarschijnlijk zo'n 165 miljoen dollar zal zijn, waarmee het dertig miljoen dollar lager ligt dan het budget van Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

De vierde Transformers-film moet vanaf 26 juni 2014 in de Nederlandse bioscopen te zien zijn.
