Alex Kurtzman en Roberto Orci gaan aan de slag met het script van The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Dit heeft Sony Pictures bekend gemaakt. Tevens werd bekend dat ze als uitvoerend producent aan de slag gaan bij de sequel op de superheldenfilm The Amazing Spider-Man, die deze zomer in de bioscoop draait.

Een eerste versie van het script werd al opgeleverd door James Vanderbilt. Kurtzman en Orci schreven eerder scripts voor films als Star Trek, Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Eagle Eye, Cowboys & Aliens en Mission: Impossible III.

Producent Matt Tolmach over de aanstelling: "Alex and Bob have a unique ability to write great character and spectacular action that makes them pitch perfect for Spider-Man. They've been friends of ours for a long time and they have an exciting take on the franchise – we're thrilled to have them join the Spider-Man family.” Hier voegt producent Avi Arad nog aan toe: "It's a thrill to have Alex and Bob put their stamp on this franchise that we all love so well. They have an innate understanding of what makes Peter Parker not just a superhero, but a hero for all of us."

De hoofdrolspelers zelf reageren ook "We grew up as huge Spider-Man fans so, to us, the opportunity to work on this film is akin to being handed the Holy Grail. We love the direction Sony and the filmmakers are taking the Peter Parker/Spider-Man mythology and we couldn't be more excited to be a part of this legendary franchise."

Het eerste deel, die geregisseerd wordt door Marc Webb en waarin o.a. Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field en Dennis Leary belangrijke rollen hebben, draait vanaf 2 juli in de (3D) bioscoop. De opnames voor het tweede deel moeten in het eerste kwartaal van 2013 starten en het verschijnt op 2 mei 2014 in de bioscoop.
