Acteur Joel Edgerton is volgens Vulture in gesprek met Warner Bros. om de hoofdrol te gaan spelen in 300: Battle of Artemisia, de opvolger van het uiterst succesvolle 300 (2006) van regisseur Zack Snyder. Edgerton moet de rol gaan spelen van de Griekse generaal Themistocles, die een Perzische aanval op Athene overwint. Deze aanval vond gelijktijdig plaats met "Battle of Thermopylae", de strijd die centraal stond in de eerste 300.

Op de website ComingSoon.net volgende een korte update van 300: Battle of Artemisia. Producent Mark Canton: "We have to say that Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad, his writing partner, have killed it. They've done a tremendous job making a highly intelligent, epic story that will stand on its own. But it's not a conventional sequel and, for what we do, that's what you hope and pray for. That you can be original and authentic at the same time."

Edgerton was onlangs te zien in de films The Thing en Warrior en is volgend jaar te zien in Baz Luhrmanns The Great Gatsby. Enige tijd terug wees de acteur nog de hoofdrollen af voor in de nieuwe Bourne film en Snow White and the Huntsman.
