Volgens Variety zal Brad Pitt hoogstwaarschijnlijk de hoofdrol spelen in de film The Gray Man, geregisseerd door James Gray (We Own the Night, 2007). Het script komt uit handen van Adam Cozad, ook verantwoordelijk voor de aanstaande Jack Ryan reboot, en de film wordt gebaseerd op het eerste boek van een reeks thrillers van schrijver Mark Greaney.

The Gray Man gaat over het personage Gentry, een voormalige CIA agent die huurmoordenaar is geworden. De film wordt als volgt omschreven:

Court Gentry is known as The Gray Man-a legend in the covert realm, moving silently from job to job, accomplishing the impossible, and then fading away. And he always hits his target. But there are forces more lethal than Gentry in the world. And in their eyes, Gentry has just outlived his usefulness. Now, he is going to prove that for him, there's no gray area between killing for a living-and killing to stay alive.

Brad Pitt lijkt zijn draai weer helemaal gevonden te hebben. Nadat we hem onlangs nog zagen in Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, zien we hem in november dit jaar in Moneyball en draaft hij ook op voor de films Cogan's Trade (2012) en World War Z (2012).
