Alle Marvel-films zijn op één of andere manier met elkaar verbonden. Sommige verbanden zijn vrij duidelijk, andere dan weer iets subtieler. Interessant voor fans van Marvel Comics-verfilmingen is dat regisseur Joe Johnston in een gesprek met Comicbookmovie.com heeft toegelicht op welke manier Captain America: The First Avenger zal gelinkt worden met andere Marvel-films.

Johnston: "There are links between all the Marvel films, mostly ones that only the fans will pick up on. We have several subtle references to certain elements in Thor, but since Captain America is a period picture taking place in the 40's, there are fewer opportunities for contemporary links to the rest of the Marvel universe. We can, however, create events in our story that will be paid off in Avengers and other Marvel pictures."

Latino Review voegt er nog twee verbanden met andere Marvel-films aan toe: het Super-Soldier serum dat geïntroduceerd zal worden in Captain America werd eerder al in verbasterde vorm gebruikt in The Incredible Hulk om The Abomination te creëren; die film bevat ook een heel kort shot van Captain America die gevangen zit in een ijsblok.
