Don Hahn, producer van veel Disneyklassiekers (Who framed Roger Rabbit, Beauty and the Beast en The Lion King), bracht ons veel goed nieuws over de komende animatiefilms die hij zal produceren, en die hij geproduceerd heeft.

Zo wist hij te melden dat zowel Beauty and the Beast (voor velen onder ons beter bekend als Belle en het Beest) als The Lion King in 3D uit zullen komen. Over die laatste film had hij het volgende te zeggen: ”I’m actually trying to work out a 3D conversion of The Lion King. I’ll be doing that when I go back to the States in a couple of weeks.” We hoeven de laatstgenoemde echter niet snel te verwachten, de studiohoofden van Disney hebben de conversie veel tijd gegeven. ”It’s going to be spectacular – we will do a good job for ya! The technology is tremendous. We did A Nightmare Before Christmas a few years ago and Tim thought it was better than the original because it allows you to walk onto the set.”

Daarnaast werkt de producer aan een vervolg op Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Er is nog weinig nieuws over die film te melden, in november werd bekend gemaakt dat de schrijvers van ’t origineel aan het vervolg werkten, en daarop had Hahn het volgende te zeggen: ”Yeah, I couldn’t possibly comment. I deny completely, but yeah… if you’re a fan, pretty soon you’re going to be very, very, very happy.”

Verder is er slecht nieuws voor The Snow Queen, de film die de volgende handgetekende van Disney zou worden. “It’s actually been tabled right now. It’s on the low shelf – we can’t reach it! But seriously, we don’t have the story. It’s a bit like Beauty And The Beast, which sat there for years. We cracked Beauty finally by putting in the objects and creating more plot. The Snow Queen we’ve had a lot of trouble with and I’ve spent years on it. I love it and I think it’s one of the last great fairy tales. It’s kind of crappy that it’s just sitting there right now.” Het kan dus nog wel een tijdje duren voordat we die film zien verschijnen. Hij komt er dus wel, maar de vraag is meer wanneer, en op welke manier, dan of die er gaat komen.

Daarnaast was er een tijdje geleden dat Tim Burton geïnteresseerd zou zijn om een live-action film te maken van Sleeping Beauty (Doornroosje). Die film zal er volgen Hahn ook komen. “That’s another one I can’t talk about! All I can say is that it’s in active development and will be pretty fun. It is great working again with Tim on Frankenweenie, though: I love that he’s back to doing puppets. But Maleficent is a way off and it’s a little too early to talk about it, except to say that it’s happening.”

De komende jaren kunnen we dus nog vrij veel films verwachten van Disney, waaronder opnieuw The Lion King (ditmaal in 3D) en Beauty and the Beast (ook in 3D) in de bioscopen. Verder dus ook nog een vervolg op Who Framed Roger Rabbit en zeker zijn ook de films The Snow Queen (hoewel waarschijnlijk pas over enkele jaren) en de live-action versie van Sleeping Beauty van de hand van Tim Burton. Een boel om naar uit te kijken dus, de komende jaren.
