Voor de gamers onder ons is dit misschien wel interessant nieuws: het spel Mass Effect wordt nu daadwerkelijk verfilmd! Twee jaar geleden al kwamen we met soortgelijk nieuws, maar vervolgens hebben we er nooit meer iets over gehoord.

Nu echter het nieuws dat Legendary Pictures de rechten heeft gekocht van de spelverfilming, en dat er zelfs al een schrijver is ingehuurd, namelijk Mark Protosevich, die eerder I Am Legend schreef. Avi Arad, de voormalige baas van Marvel, zal de film alsnog produceren.

Hij had het volgende te zeggen over de film: "EA and BioWare are terrific partners who have created a brilliant piece of fiction with a universe filled with amazing aliens and technology. More importantly, though, they created a parable whose conflicts mirror the ones we currently face in our own world. This story emphasizes the need for all cultures to learn to work together. All this magic is presented in a fast paced action-adventure that makes for the best kind of movie experience."

Het spel speelt zich in de toekomst af, in de ruimte. Elke 50,000 jaar roeit een oud ras alle beschavingen uit. De speler komt daar al vrij snel in het spel achter en neemt de opdracht aan om het universum te redden.

De officiële Engelse synopsis: The galaxy is trapped in an endless cycle of extinction. Every 50,000 years, an ancient machine race invades the galaxy. With ruthless efficiency, the machines wipe out all advanced organic civilization. They leave behind only the scattered ruins of technology, destroying all evidence of their own existence.
