Tijdens een persconferentie voor zijn nieuwste film Mother and Child, sprak Samuel L. Jackson over zijn rol als Nick Fury in aankomende Marvel films. Hij vertelde onder andere wanneer hij verwacht dat The Avengers begint met de opnames, en in welke films zijn personage voor zal komen.

Jackson vertelde onder andere dat hij verwachtte in de film Thor te moeten spelen, echter dit is niet het geval blijkbaar: “I thought I was, they said I was in the trades and I was like, ’Ooh! I got a job!’ I called my agent and he said, ‘Naw, you’re not in it.’ I was like, ‘Well shit, they neet to pay me if they’re gonna put my name in it. Somethin’’.” Thor komt ook voor in The Avengers, en zal op de een of andere manier geronseld moeten worden voor het superheldenteam, en aangezien Jackson de rol speelt van Nick Fury, die het team leidt, is het een beetje raar dat hij er niet in voorkomt.

Hij komt wel voor in de Captain America film, waarin Chris Evans de titelrol zal spelen. De opnames daarvan beginnen deze zomer. Verder gaf Jackson nog aan dat hij het scenario van The Avengers nog niet had gelezen, maar de film wel ziet als een soort hoofdfilm voor zijn personage, ondanks dat er in 2012 waarschijnlijk een Nick Fury film komt.

Ten slotte gaf Jackson nog aan dat de opnames van The Avengers zullen beginnen in februari. De film staat gepland voor een release op 3 mei 2012.

Are you disappointed you/re not going to London for that?
Actually, I had a plan to go to London, I had two suits I had to pick up so I was looking forward to going there so I could pick up my suits. Go to this West Indian restaurant that I really like. So I'm sorta bummed I won't be there. But I just got out just as the volcano was erupting. Got out before they shut everything down or I wouldn't be here today.

Well I know you've talked about doing like nine films as Nick Fury. Be a gradual order before you get your own Nick Fury film. So how is it getting started on that journey?
Well I started on it when I did the end of Iron Man 1. My foot was on the path. Now my foot's a little deeper on the path with Iron Man 2. I'm not in Thor. Supposed to do Captain America this summer in London.

Why do you think you're not in Thor? That's kind of weird.
I have no idea. I'm not in charge of making those kinds of decisions. I thought I was, they said I was in the trades and I was like, "Ooh! I got a job!" I called my agent he said, "Naw, you're not in it." I was like, "Well shit, they need to pay me if they're gonna put my name in it. Somethin'."

Did you read The Avengers script before...it looks like they're going to re-write it?
No. Have you? You know you have a source online.

Do you have any sort of desire, or campaign to have your own starring vehicle for that character?
The Avengers is my own starring vehicle for that character, pretty much.

But that's so far away.
It's not that far away, it's February. That too far away for you? You can't wait until next year? I got time to get in shape and everything.
