Bij de Critics Choice Awards zijn zondagnacht de twee populairste films van dit jaar opnieuw rijkelijk in de prijzen gevallen. Oppenheimer heeft acht beeldjes ontvangen, Barbie wint er zes.
De film van Christopher Nolan over de geestelijk vader van de atoombom wint de grootste prijs, namelijk die van beste film. Verder heeft de film volgens de critici ook de beste regie, de beste mannelijke bijrol, de beste cast, beste cinematografie, beste montage, beste visual effects en beste originele muziek.
Roze prijzenregen
Er was bij de critici ook een grote roze prijzenregen. Barbie van regisseur Greta Gerwaig wint er zes: beste originele scenario, beste productiedesign, beste kostuums, beste make-up en haar, beste komediefilm en beste liedje voor I'm Just Ken.
Waar de kenners de meeste winnaars wel konden voorspellen, waren de winnaars van de beeldjes voor acteur en actrice in een hoofdrol wel verrassend. Paul Giamatti won de prijs voor beste acteur voor de film The Holdovers - terwijl Cillian Murphy in die categorie een grote favoriet was.
Stone
In de categorie actrice is de winnaar misschien wel nog verrassender: Emma Stone wint het beeldje voor haar rol in Poor Things ondanks fikse tegenstand: bijvoorbeeld Lily Gladstone vist naast het net. Overigens valt niet alleen Gladstone niet in de prijzen: de film van Martin Scorsese waarin zij de hoofdrol speelt wint geen enkel beeldje.
