DreamWorks Animation heeft bekendgemaakt dat ze tot een overeenstemming zijn gekomen om het bedrijf Classic Media op korte termijn over te nemen. Het bedrijf is eigenaar van de rechten van vele bekende animatie- en live-actionfilms & -tv-series. In het bestand zitten onder meer de rechten van Casper the Friendly Ghost, Where's Waldo?, Lassie, The Lone Ranger, George of the Jungle en Rocky & Bullwinkle.

DreamWorks Animation wordt door de overname ook eigenaar van een flinke reeks bekende Kerstmis titels, zoals Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town. In totaal gaat het om zo’n 450 titels en meer 6.100 afleveringen. Met de koop is $155 miljoen gemoeid.

Jeffrey Katzenberg, een hoge pief bij DreamWorks Animation, de studio achter succesvolle animatiefilms als Shrek (2001), Kung Fu Panda (2008) en het aanstaande Rise of the Guardians, zegt: "Classic Media brings a large and diverse collection of characters and branded assets that is extremely complementary to DreamWorks Animation's franchise business, and we plan to leverage it across our motion picture, television, home entertainment, consumer products, digital, theme park and live entertainment channels.
